On the east side of the Northern region is the start of "The Scar" or otherwise known as "Wyvern Trench" but it is advised to only approach this zone on a flyer, should you need to make a fast retreat.įurther south you will find a waterway and small interconnected lakes which home the largest beaver population on the map. Just slightly north of that you will approach a cluster or rocks jutting out of the sea, referred to as "Viking Isles" or "The Silica isles" The reason for this name is due to plenty of silica pearls, which can be found amongst the shallow waters between these behemoth rocks. This region of the map showcases one of the natural structures that are can be found throughout Ragnarok, which is "The Castle of the Swamps". Ruther to the south-east of this region, you will find the "Ice Lake", the "Ice Dungeons" and there have even been reports of Ice Wyverns patrolling the skies. This region is a popular place for alpha tribes to become established due to the close proximity to valuable resources and also the sheer flat building surfaces available. Slightly further east in the region, you will approach two large, flat stone formations in an area commonly called "Twin falls" which opens up into Viking Bay. Here we have what is referred to as "The Jungles" with a largely dense jungle region reaching from the coast right to the foot of "Wedlock Peak". If you are playing on a privately hosted server either through a dedicated console or a third party host, then the map will already be available by simply selecting the Ragnarok map through the admin settings on the server settings menu. This can be completed easier in single player mode, through the use of admin commands and will grant access to Ragnarok on official servers, after completion. Details on how to do this can be found here. This is achieved through beating all the bosses and essentially "beating" the game, as it stands. If you wish to play Ragnarok on an official hosted server you will need to first " Ascend" at alpha, beta and gamma level. Upon release, this map was at 50% completion for the PC version and 75% completion for the console (now both are at 75%) which is a testimony to the vision of the Ragnarok development team, given that this map is, by far, the largest we have seen. Therefore, allowing the player to have ultimate freedom with the type of building, dinos, weapons, items, resources and even topography in which they wish to experience. This map has a pleasant blend between the "vanilla" biomes and that which we saw in the Scorched Earth expansion. The success of this is due to the diverse range of biomes and resources available for all players. I made a tour around the map and collected some coordinates, and for me it seems that it fits best without any offset.Created, in what originally started as a mod program, the Ragnarok map has become the latest installment on official maps provided by Studio Wildcard. If coordinates don't apply to the landmarks then it is likely a matter of the border offset. So, the map as such is supposed to be correct. 216.54.120.82 13:00, 5 April 2019 (UTC) We are using the topographic map here, created from game data. This is why you should craft a GPS, they're quite cheap for their usefulness. The ingame map does not always show your exact position. If you don't have GPS and try to eyeball it based on where it is overlayed on the map on this page, they all seem to be offset a few mm.- 125.129.16.99 12:47, 5 April 2019 (UTC) Flachdachs ( talk) 06:12, 5 July 2017 (UTC) Map seems to be off Īll the locations on the map seem to be physically offset. You can easily add some single dots by hand, but expect that they can be deleted on map updates. So the Resource Map gives you only a rough estimation where you have to seek. Expect that we have to combine more when it is finished. And currently only 50% of the map is finished. Ragnarok on the other hand is a huge map, so comparing to the other maps we had to skip a lot more nodes, read: combining more nodes in each dot. When there are many nodes in an area they are combined to one dot. Unfortunately the wiki has its limits so that we can't draw one dot for each single resource node. Missing resources: Significant quantity of metal nodes around Pelagornis Islands and coastal cliffside (14, 43 area) are not displaying metal nodes on this map. This week sees the release of Blake’s fifth studio album, Friends That Break Your Heart. Whether it’s JAY-Z or JPEGMAFIA, James Blake has been right in the middle of it all. In addition to his own work, Blake has proven himself to be a genius collaborator with credits on some of the 21st century’s defining records including Beyoncé’s Lemonade, Kendrick Lamar's Damn, and Frank Ocean’s Blonde. It was a revelatory move that he built on with subsequent albums Overgrown, The Color In Anything, and 2019’s Assume Form. A year later that same electronic innovator shocked the world by revealing himself to be a traditionalist releasing an intimate self-titled debut album featuring sparse piano in place of beats and his vocals entirely untreated. But those not ready to immerse themselves in the sea of melancholy will not particularly enjoy Blake’s 5th LP.In 2010, when genre terms like “post-dubstep” were bandied around freely, James Blake established himself as an innovative producer with a love of jazz chords and a tendency to mask his own vocals with chopped up ‘90s R&B samples. James Blake’s loyal fans who, after his 10-year career, understand the artist’s emotionality are guaranteed to find comfort and shelter in the subdued sounds filled with profound sadness and grief. However, Friends That Break Your Heart will not change Blake’s liminal position in the industry since those unconvinced by, for instance, Assume Form, will not discover anything new or surprising on this record. He has already left the niche, but remains somewhere in the middle ground, not quite attracting the same large audiences that his collaborators do. The lyrics of “Say What You Will” reveal the artist’s struggle with accepting that his music has never truly entered the mainstream. Both “Frozen” and “Funeral” are proof that Blake’s collaborative projects with rappers are what he does best. The bonus track, released a few days after the album’s premiere, a rework of “Funeral” with slowthai, proves even more heartrending with the addition of the British rapper’s gritty voice. Blake’s vocals feel as if they were coming from a distant place, adding a complex spatiality to the track. While Blake’s foray into poppier tunes might not be the most successful part of Friends That Break Your Heart, “Frozen”, a collaboration with rappers JID and SwaVay, stands out as one of the most interesting and genre-bending tracks on the album. For some, this album may seem the most coherent from his body of work, but personally, I miss the apparent disharmony and discontinuity from the artist’s debut album or Overgrown.Īn epic journey: Little Simz album review His new album still delivers its listeners a mixture of electronics and instrumentals but departs almost completely from his purely electronic roots. Most of them have a surprisingly conventional structure that is in most cases coherent and well-thought-out, but which feels a bit too safe for Blake’s music. And this moment of disjointedness is what the ballads on this album, such as the eponymous “Friends That Break Your Heart” or “Lost Angel Nights” are missing. Although still heartrending, they did not try to jerk tears, as often happens with many pop ballads. This discontinuous structure, for me, resulted in the rejection of pathos in Blake’s ballads about unreciprocated love and heartbreak. The ballads from his previous albums consistently contain an element of surprise – a jarring beat, or a sudden change of pace. To me, James Blake has always deconstructed the form of a sentimental ballad. which feels a bit too safe for Blake’s music” have a surprisingly conventional structure. In this way, Blake conceptualises stories of his lost friendships as love stories that have the power to break our heart even more than those of our lost lovers: “And as many loves that have crossed my path/In the end, it was friends. It was friends who broke my heart.” Without knowing the title of the album, almost every song on Friends That Break Your Heart could be read as an expression of the sorrow of a longing lover coming to terms with a breakdown of a relationship. James Blake’s fifth LP reminds us of the value of friendship and that certain friendships can also be called love. After all, stars also had to align for us to feel a connection with them at a particular moment in our life. But when thinking about our closest friends, we so often forget the amount of luck that goes into meeting a person we later become best friends with. Whenever we talk about falling in love, we tend to highlight the beauty of finding that one special person among almost 8 billion people on the planet. Optimistic locking is a very useful technique, and it works just fine even when using less-strict isolation levels, like Read Committed, or when reads and writes are executed in subsequent database transactions. So, optimistic locking can help you prevent Lost Updates even when using application-level transactions that incorporate the user-think time as well. This is because reads and writes are executed in separate HTTP requests, hence on different database transactions. Without optimistic locking, there is no way this Lost Update would have been caught even if the database transactions used Serializable. Nowadays, over the Internet, we no longer execute reads and writes in the context of the same database transaction, and ACID is no longer sufficient.įor instance, consider the following use case: That's why we still see database systems define terms such as SESSION setting. Relational database systems have emerged in the late 70's early 80's when a client would, typically, connect to a mainframe via a terminal. For this to work, we need to issue the SELECT and read the current version prior to executing the UPDATE or DELETE, as otherwise, we would not know what version value to pass to the WHERE clause or to increment. The version column is incremented every time an UPDATE or DELETE is executed, and it is also used in the WHERE clause of the UPDATE and DELETE statements. This time, we have an additional version column. Optimistic Locking allows the conflict to occur but detects it upon applying Alice's UPDATE as the version has changed. Until Alice releases the read lock, Bob's UPDATE blocks. Only after Alice has committed her transaction and the read lock was released on the account row, Bob UPDATE will resume and apply the change. This is because a write operation requires a write/exclusive lock acquisition, and shared/read locks prevent write/exclusive locks. The database acquires these locks on SQL Server when using Repeatable Read or Serializable.īecause both Alice and Bob have read the account with the PK value of 1, neither of them can change it until one user releases the read lock. In the diagram above, both Alice and Bob will acquire a read lock on the account table row that both users have read. Pessimistic locking achieves this goal by taking a shared or read lock on the account so Bob is prevented from changing the account. In the diagram above we can see that Alice believes she can withdraw 40 from her account but does not realize that Bob has just changed the account balance, and now there are only 20 left in this account. The Lost Update anomaly can happen in the Read Committed isolation level. Now, let's consider the following Lost Update anomaly: Or, you could allow the conflict to occur, but you need to detect it upon committing your transactions, and that's what Optimistic Locking does. You can try to avoid the conflict, and that's what Pessimistic Locking does. When dealing with conflicts, you have two options: This is how distributed transactions using two-phase commit protocols (such as XA or COM+ Transactions) work. The DBMS maintains the locks and allows you to pick the session back up through the TxID. In the latter case you open the transaction with the TxID and then reconnect using that ID. To use pessimistic locking you need either a direct connection to the database (as would typically be the case in a two tier client server application) or an externally available transaction ID that can be used independently of the connection. It has much better integrity than optimistic locking but requires you to be careful with your application design to avoid Deadlocks. Pessimistic Locking is when you lock the record for your exclusive use until you have finished with it. In this situation the client cannot actually maintain database locks as the connections are taken from a pool and you may not be using the same connection from one access to the next. This strategy is most applicable to high-volume systems and three-tier architectures where you do not necessarily maintain a connection to the database for your session. different version to yours) you abort the transaction and the user can re-start it. hasn't been updated between when you check the version and write the record to the disk) and update the version in one hit. When you write the record back you filter the update on the version to make sure it's atomic. Optimistic Locking is a strategy where you read a record, take note of a version number (other methods to do this involve dates, timestamps or checksums/hashes) and check that the version hasn't changed before you write the record back. Golf ( 2-6 players ) - A great casual game for two players that also works with 3 or more. Once a seven is played, you can build up or down on that suit, with the aim to be the first to play all your cards. In turns players play a card to a common layout, which will begin with sevens as the foundation for each suit. The aim is to be the first to get rid of all your cards, and you can bluff about what cards you are playing on a turn, but if you get challenged and caught out you have to pick up the entire pile.Įgyptian Ratscrew (2-6 players) - This is a quick-slapping game that is like Slap Jack on steroids, and has been published commercially under the name Slamwich.įan Tan (3-6 players) - Also known as "Sevens", "Domino", "Parliament", and "Pay or Play". By drawing and discarding a card each turn, the aim is to try to improve your three card hand to have the closest to 31 points in one suit.Ĭheat (3-13 players) - Also called "I Doubt It" or "Bullsh**", this is a game many children have played. But if I was looking for a fun and lighter game that is easy to learn and play, these are all excellent choices.īlitz (2-12 players) - A popular and casual/social card game, also known as "Scat", "Thirty-One", "Ride the Bus", and "Blitz". This category is somewhat arbitrary in that some of the card games in the other categories can also be enjoyed socially or with children, and the games in this category are certainly not just for children. Believe me, it is really worth it, because there are some truly fantastic games here!Įach game has a direct link to where you can find the rules on, which is the most authoritative and comprehensive website with rules for card games. I hope this will encourage you to stretch yourself outside of your comfort zone, and that you will take the time to learn and explore some new territory. This list is not intended to be exhaustive, but just represents the ones are most well-known, and for the most part are games that I have personally tried and enjoyed, or ones that I know are good classics that are worthwhile learning. Obviously there are many other games that can be played with a standard deck of cards besides the ones included here. It is worth noting that several games are excellent for just two players.Īlthough some more recently invented games are included, for the most part the emphasis of this list is on traditional card games that have stood the test of time in some way, and we are not concerned here with using a standard deck to play modern games. Each game also notes its suitability according to the number of players. Included at the end of the list is a section with books about games with playing cards that I own and can recommend, along with links to some other resources. So here is a list of some of my favourite traditional games with standard playing cards, arranged alphabetically, and grouped roughly according to their primary suitability for adults or children. I have a large collection of other modern games, but over the years I have learned a lot of card games with a traditional deck, and I find myself often coming back to them - especially when I have a custom deck in my hands! But what card games should you play? Most people have learned a handful of card games at best, but the truth is that there is just a whole world of wonderful card games out there, just waiting to be discovered and explored. And during moments of down time, when you are staring at a hand of cards, you can savour the stunning artwork and just enjoy the creativity. That way you actually get to use the deck, and others get to enjoy it too. And maybe you can even take them for an occasional spin with some high flying cardistry magic, or use them for some card magic.īut one of the best ways to enjoy a wonderful custom deck is by using it for a card game. You can even take out the cards from time to time, to feel their embossed and papery touch in your hand, and remind them that they are loved. Now what? You can certainly put it quietly and safely on your display shelf, occasionally looking at it out of the corner of your eye to remind you that it is really yours, give an admiring glance at the exquisite tuck case, and get a fuzzy feeling inside knowing that it contains some wonderful cards within. So you have a beautiful deck of custom playing cards. GGPlot2 Essentials for Great Data Visualization in R by A. We have this detailed review of the best travel cushions from tots through to teens Note, you should only use devices mid-flight, not during take-off and landing. Even practising using these devices at home, when you’re in the air and pressure is on, the seats are incredibly tight it can be difficult to instal the products exactly as they should be for optimal fit. But we know from experience it isn’t always straightforward. If installed correctly, these devices should not cause an obstruction in the cabin. If there are three of you, book the centre row of 4 and leave Seat E or F free. Otherwise, get to your flight as early as possible on the day of flying to enquire with check-in staff. My best advice – just ASK! So when you call the returned function via isNotNaN() it can still access that original func parameter that is set to the isNan function.1 Eloquent JavaScript A Modern Introduction to Programming Marijn HaverbekeĢ Copyright 2014 by Marijn Haverbeke This work is licensed under a Creative Commons attribution-noncommercial license ( All code in the book may also be considered licensed under an MIT license ( /licenses/mit). You'll notice that the returned function references the func parameter. Regarding how the negate() function works, it relies on the concept of "closures", which means that functions declared inside negate() have access to its variables and parameters even after negate() completes. To oversimplify, it is a constant provided to you by the JS environment. "I just don't understand.where the variable/value for NaN comes from" calls isNotNan() and passes it NaN as a parameter, and the result is written out to the document. So then the line: document.writeln(isNotNaN(NaN)) Now the negate() function actually creates and returns another function, so after that line runs isNotNan references that returned function, which means you can call it as isNotNan(someVal). That parameter isNan is actually a function as described by MDN, but negate() would accept any function as a parameter, you could say for example var isNotFinite = negate(isFinite). declares a variable isNotNan that is assigned equal to the result of a call to the negate() function, passing isNan as a parameter. I think xdazz pretty much covered it, but since you said you still don't get it maybe it would help to hear the explanation in somebody else's words. Rather than being controlled by living pilots, they synchronize with dummy systems generated from Kaworu Nagisa's thought patterns. The Evas are observed levitating in a manner similar to flight-capable Angels (such as Ramiel and Zeruel) later on, with their wings spread but serving no apparent function. Considering the Evas' size and weight, traditional powered flight (as observed in birds, bats, and pterosaurs) would normally be impossible, so the wings would feasibly be used in concert with A.T. They also possess large, fully retractable, mechanical wings (with an extended "tail" piece), attached to their shoulders. However, unlike Angels, they do not utilize their organs for regenerative purposes (even though they theoretically could). The MP Evangelions have all been furnished with S² Engines, eliminating the need for umbilical cables or internal batteries. This is slightly confusing, since the "Eva Series" technically encompasses every Evangelion ever made. Within the series itself, these Evas are referred to almost exclusively as the "Eva Series" (エヴァシリーズ). The nine are deployed as part of Seele's assault on the Nerv HQ Geofront, but their primary function is to carry out Seele's version of Third Impact, which ends up utilizing Evangelion Unit-01. However, Seele had to advance the construction schedule for them, as they wanted to initiate Third Impact as soon as the final Angel was destroyed, and, as a result, three units were never completed. Nine MP Evangelions were created out of an originally planned twelve Evangelions (through Eva-16). They were manufactured in secrecy under Seele's mandate at seven different facilities around the world, including ones in Germany and China. The Mass Production Evangelions (エヴァンゲリオン量産機, Evangerion Ryousanki) are the final Eva units to be produced.
